Professional Support
At SCS we recognise that our clinical practitioners need to have not only a sound knowledge of underlying theory and a substantial period of supervised clinical practice, but very importantly, a personal maturity that is sculptured by having lived through difficult times in their own lives. In particular life experiences that have provided a special opportunity for personal development and discovery of a deeper sense of being and self–understanding through facing, confronting and tackling life’s challenges. SCS recognizes that experience and personal maturity as well as formal training are basic requirements underpinning sound professional support.
Clients
At SCS we offer support to Clients throughout the duration of their period of counselling, psychotherapy and life coaching with the agency. Should situations occur where the SCS therapist unfortunately is absent for a period of time, or the Client requires help during a therapist’s holiday break, a suitable alternate therapist we be available to provide support. We do our best to meet the individual needs and requirements of all our Clients and all SCS therapists observe the Agency and UKCP/BACP professional requirement for regular clinical supervision and the need to maintain continuous professional development (CPD). At SCS duty of professional and ethical care to all Clients, referral GPs and agencies, is paramount. Our passion is working with people to facilitate insight and change, however, if the work is to be successful a full commitment and regular attendance by the Client is necessary.
Recent research (NICE & LSE) has shown that counselling and psychotherapy are as effective as psychotropic medication. SCS does not provide medication but recognizes that in appropriate circumstances of informed medical opinion (GP/consultant diagnosis) the value and place for psychotropic suppression by medication to alleviate suffering. SCS accepts the need and benefit, in such circumstances, to work with Clients taking GP prescribed medication.
Clinical Supervision
SCS provides clinical supervision for professionally qualified and trainee counsellors and psychotherapists. We offer both one–to–one and group supervision. Trainees are supported to understand the purpose, role and relevance of supervision as a professional requirement and as a valuable personal resource, and to promote openness concerning individual client and supervisee needs. SCS fees are reduced for student trainees.
Clinical Placements
We offer clinical placements to those in the final year of completing their post–graduate psychotherapist and counselling diploma training.
